In 1619, the ancient Hospital of the Holy Mercy was donated to the brothers of San Juan de Dios. It was kept as a charity welfare hospital until 1980. It has a late Gothic style façade. The church has a plain façade from the 18^th century. It was restored in 1914. Nowadays, the building houses the Institute of Jaén Studies and the Documental Centre of the city. The Renaissance courtyard and the old chapel date back to the 18^th century. It had to be reconstructed in 1919 due to the devastation of the fire of 1916.
